Why Might a Rug Look Different Than in Photos?
When buying a handwoven rug online, you may notice small differences between the photo and the product you receive. We explain why this happens and why it's part of the charm of handcraft.
Reasons for Differences
1. Natural Materials Wool is a living material — its color may vary slightly depending on the batch, the sheep, and even the season of shearing.
2. Hand Weaving Each knot is tied by hand. Small differences in tension, density, or pile height are natural and indicate authenticity.
3. Natural Dyes Plant and mineral dyes give subtly different shades depending on dyeing conditions.
4. Lighting and Photography Colors in photos may look different depending on lighting, camera settings, and the screen you're viewing them on.
What Do We Do to Minimize Differences?
- We post you physical wool and dyed-yarn samples before you approve the design
- We photograph the rug on the loom in neutral daylight and avoid excessive editing
- Before dispatch we show you the finished rug in photos and video — you approve it before it travels
Are Differences a Defect?
Absolutely not. It's precisely these small "imperfections" that make each rug unique. When you buy a handwoven rug, you're buying a work of art — not a factory product.
