Our story
Common Thread began with a simple question: why should a rug meant to be part of your everyday life for years come from an anonymous production line? We run an online atelier, with no showroom and no ready stock — every rug is commissioned only once we've settled its final form together with you. We came to Morocco not by chance, but through a fascination with Berber weaving — a craft in which pattern, colour and knotting technique pass from generation to generation, chiefly through women. The longer we spent learning this tradition, the more we felt our role wasn't to trade in finished rugs, but to be a connector — a thread running from a loom in the Atlas Mountains to your home. Hence the name Common Thread: the shared thread that ties design, material, a weaver's hands and your interior into one coherent story. We don't sell rugs off a shelf — we design them with you, step by step, and stay with the whole process until the day the rug arrives beneath your feet.
Mission
Our mission is to prove that buying a bespoke rug can be as simple as it is enjoyable — without compromising between the convenience of shopping online and the authenticity of the craft. We want anyone to be able to order a genuine, handwoven Berber rug with full understanding of where it comes from, who wove it and what it's made of — and the certainty of seeing the finished result before it ever sets off.
Quality promise
Before a rug reaches you, we check it against four measures: the quality and twist of the wool, the regularity and density of the knot, the fastness of the dyes, and the care taken in finishing the edges. You see every piece too — in photographs and video from the atelier, before it ever ships — so you know the rug meets your expectations before the final decision to send it is made.
