How to Remove Stains From a Wool Rug?
A stain on your favorite rug is stressful — but most stains can be removed with home methods. The key is quick action and the right technique.
General Rules
- Act fast — a fresh stain is easier to remove
- Don't rub — this pushes the stain deeper and can damage fibers
- Test in an invisible spot — check if the solution doesn't change the color
- Work from outside to center — prevents spreading the stain
Coffee and Tea
- Blot excess liquid with a clean cloth
- Prepare solution: 1 tablespoon white vinegar + glass of lukewarm water
- Gently wash the stain
- Rinse with clean water and dry
Red Wine
- Immediately sprinkle the stain with salt (absorbs liquid)
- After a few minutes, remove the salt
- Wash with a solution of water and a bit of dish soap
- Rinse and dry
Grease
- Sprinkle the stain with cornstarch or talc
- Leave for several hours (absorbs grease)
- Vacuum the powder
- If stain remains — gently wash with a solution of water and mild soap
What to Absolutely Avoid
- Hot water
- Bleach
- Harsh detergents
- Drying in full sun or on a heater
