How to Care for a Moroccan Wool Rug?
Berber wool rugs are durable and easy to care for — as long as you know a few basic rules. This guide will help you keep your rug in perfect condition for years.
Daily Care
Vacuuming Vacuum your rug regularly (1-2 times a week), using a suction nozzle without a rotating brush. Aggressive brushes can damage wool fibers.
Rotating Rotate your rug every 3-6 months to ensure even wear and fading.
Avoid Direct Sunlight Prolonged sun exposure can cause colors to fade. Use blinds or curtains on sunny days.
Stain Removal
Rule #1: Act Fast The faster you react to a stain, the easier it will be to remove.
How to remove a stain:
- Blot excess liquid with a clean cloth (don't rub!)
- Prepare a solution: lukewarm water + a bit of mild soap
- Gently wash the stain from outside to center
- Rinse with clean water
- Blot dry and leave to air dry
What to avoid:
- Hot water (can damage wool)
- Harsh detergents and bleach
- Drying on a heater or in full sun
Professional Cleaning
We recommend professional cleaning once a year or every two years. Choose a company specializing in wool rugs — not every dry cleaner has the right experience.
Storage
If you need to store your rug:
- Clean and dry thoroughly
- Roll (don't fold!) along the fibers
- Store in a dry, cool place
- Add natural moth deterrents (lavender, cedar)
