How Long Does a Custom Rug Take?
A custom rug is a multi-week process. Here's a detailed timeline to help you plan your purchase.
Stages and Timeline
1. Consultation and Quote (1-3 days) We discuss your needs, prepare a quote and specification.
2. Acceptance and Deposit (1-7 days) You accept the terms and pay a deposit (30-50%). This starts production.
3. Material Preparation (1-2 weeks) The artisan prepares the wool: washing, spinning, possible dyeing.
4. Weaving (3-8 weeks) Weaving time depends on size and pattern complexity:
- Small rug (100×150 cm): 2-3 weeks
- Medium rug (170×240 cm): 4-6 weeks
- Large rug (200×300 cm+): 6-10 weeks
5. Finishing and Quality Control (3-5 days) The rug is trimmed, checked, and photographed.
6. Shipping (7-14 days) The rug is packed and shipped via tracked courier.
Total Time: 6-14 Weeks
Assuming an average-sized rug, about 8-10 weeks pass from order to delivery.
What Affects Timeline?
- Size — larger rug = longer weaving
- Pattern complexity — intricate patterns require more time
- Season — workshops have more orders before holidays
- Special colors — custom dyeing extends the process
